How it works

The path to obtaining the Trustworthy AI Quality Seal follows clearly defined steps. After receiving initial information, an organisation submits an application and agrees to the assessment process. The AI application is then evaluated according to defined assessment guidelines covering seven quality dimensions: data protection and security, transparency, explainability and fairness, human oversight and decision-making, digital sovereignty and resilience, economic aspects, sustainability as well as digital humanism.

Following a successful expert assessment, the applicant commits to regular self-monitoring. This requires a concept covering the assessment criteria and measures to ensure AI competence. If the award requirements are met, the Quality Seal is granted together with a unique Quality Seal ID. It is valid for 24 months and can be renewed provided that the required standards continue to be met.

AI tools, AI services, AI systems and AI models can be assessed. Depending on the application, technical, legal, ethical and organisational aspects are considered together, providing a structured basis for the holistic evaluation of AI applications.

The approach also strengthens digital sovereignty by supporting controlled, transparent and independent AI evaluation and operation. In this way, the Trustworthy AI Quality Seal contributes to responsible AI and a sustainable, self-determined digital transformation in Austria and across Europe.
