BioCapture

Mobile biometrics for secure identity verification

Modern security requires fast, reliable, and data-protection-compliant solutions for identity verification—whether at border controls, in police operations, or in international security cooperation. With BioCapture, a mobile biometrics solution “made in Austria,” security authorities can capture, analyze, and securely process fingerprints and facial images contactlessly. The result: accelerated identification processes, increased efficiency, and an internationally recognized digital security solution that highlights Austria’s pioneering role in responsible digitization.

How it works

BioCapture was developed within the KIRAS project and optimizes mobile identification processes for use by police and security agencies. Using smartphones or mobile devices, four fingers can be captured simultaneously; a specially trained neural network automatically selects the sharpest fingerprints for further analysis. Facial recognition is also performed contactlessly and in compliance with ICAO standards. The solution integrates seamlessly into existing police systems, supporting official workflows from data capture to secure transmission. All biometric data is encrypted and fully compliant with GDPR requirements, ensuring privacy and data security at all times. By combining innovative technology, short response times, and intuitive operation, BioCapture significantly shortens identification procedures while increasing security and hygiene in mobile operations. The solution is not intended solely for national use; the high quality of the technology has, for example, also led to international cooperation with the United Nations.

The Big Picture

BioCapture enables security authorities to identify individuals quickly, reliably, and in a data-protection-compliant manner—even when they cannot present identification themselves. Accelerated processes relieve staff, reduce organizational workload, and improve interagency cooperation. At the same time, the technology strengthens Austria’s position as an innovation leader in digital security and contributes to Europe’s digital sovereignty. Contactless data capture also meets hygiene requirements and minimizes waiting times, which is especially important in mobile and international operations.
